Privacy Policy for Puzzle Nook
Effective date: 9 August 2026
Last updated: 18 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Puzzle Nook (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles
your information. Puzzle Nook is a free, ad-supported word and math puzzle game.
By using the app you agree to the practices described below.
This is a plain-language policy. If anything is unclear, contact us using the
details at the end.
The short version
- The app works fully without an account. Your progress, points and settings
are stored only on your device by default.
- If you choose to sign in with Google, we back up your game progress to our
cloud so you can restore it if you lose or change your phone. Signing in is
optional and never required to play.
- We show ads through Google AdMob, which uses your device’s advertising ID,
app interaction data, diagnostics, and a rough area estimated from your IP.
- You can delete your cloud backup and account at any time from inside the app.
- We do not sell your personal information.
The following is saved on your device using standard app storage. None of it
reaches us unless you sign in for cloud backup:
- Game progress: your best scores and run streaks for the three word games
(Word Guess, Word Grouping, Word Search) and the four Math Quiz games (2048
Number-Merge, Quick Math, Number Patterns, Equation Guess), plus any game you
saved partway through.
- Play activity: how many rounds you have played and finished in each game,
and how much time you have spent in each. This is what the in-app Stats screen
shows you.
- Your check-in streak: which days you played, your current and longest day
streak, and which games you have completed today.
- Rewards: your Nook Points balance, a rolling 30-day log of how you earned
and spent them, and which wallpapers, music tracks and badges you own and have
equipped.
- App settings: dark mode, colourblind mode, sound, music, vibration, and
your daily reminder preference, plus whether you have finished onboarding.
If you uninstall the app, all of this is removed with it.
If you choose Sign in with Google, Google’s own sign-in screen handles the
whole thing and we never see your password. Google then gives us:
- Your email address
- Your display name
- Your profile picture (as a link to an image hosted by Google)
- A unique account identifier
We use these to identify your cloud backup so it can be restored, and to show
you which account you are signed in as on the Account screen.
3. Game progress we back up to the cloud (only if you sign in)
While you are signed in, we store one record of your progress in our cloud
database. It contains the game progress, play activity, check-in streak and
rewards described in section 1.
We do not back up your app settings, your saved partway games, or your hint
allowances. Those stay on your device only.
4. Notifications
If you turn on the optional daily reminder, the app schedules a local
notification on your device. Nothing is sent to us or to any server, and the
app does not use push notifications.
We show ads using Google AdMob: banners on some screens, occasional
full-screen ads between rounds, and optional rewarded videos you can choose to
watch in exchange for a hint or to save your game.
To serve ads, Google and its partners collect and use the following, as described
in Google’s own policies:
- Your device’s advertising ID and app set ID.
- App interaction data, such as app launches, taps and ad views.
- An approximate location, which Google estimates from your IP address. This
is a rough area, not a precise position. The app itself has no location
permission and never asks for one.
- Diagnostic information, such as app launch time, hang rate and energy use.
We set AdMob to family-safe content only. We do not combine advertising data with
your account or your game progress.
Where the law requires it, such as in the European Economic Area and the UK, you
are shown a consent form the first time the app runs, and your choice is passed
to Google.
6. What we never collect
We do not collect your contacts, files, calendar, or call and message history.
The app plays sound but never records audio, and it does not request camera or
microphone access.
Two things deserve a precise answer rather than a flat “never”, because they
sound like exceptions:
- Precise location: never. The app holds no location permission and contains
no location code. The only location involved anywhere is the rough area Google’s
ad service estimates from your IP address, described in section 5.
- Your photo library: never. The app cannot open it and has no camera or
storage access. The only picture involved is your Google account’s profile
picture, which arrives as a link when you choose to sign in, described in
section 2.
- To save and restore your progress across devices, only when you are signed in.
- To run features such as streaks, statistics, points and rewards.
- To show advertising, which is what keeps the app free.
- To keep the service secure and working.
Third-party services
We rely on these providers, each with its own privacy policy:
Your choices and controls
- Play without an account. Sign-in is entirely optional.
- Sign out. Settings → Account → Sign out. This stops further backing up. It
does not delete what has already been backed up.
- Delete your account and cloud backup. Settings → Account → Delete Account.
This permanently removes your cloud record and your sign-in account from our
systems. Progress stored on your device is left alone.
- Already uninstalled the app? You can still ask us to delete your account
and everything stored with it. See
https://conmen80.github.io/puzzle-nook-privacy/delete-account.html.
- Reset your on-device progress. Settings → About → Reset all data. This
clears progress, points and rewards on this device. If you are signed in, your
cloud backup is untouched and will be restored on the next sync, so delete the
account first if you want everything gone.
- Turn off reminders. Settings → Reminders, or your device’s notification
settings.
- Reset your advertising ID. Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
Data retention and deletion
- On-device data stays until you reset it, clear the app’s storage, or
uninstall the app.
- Cloud backup is kept while your account exists, so it can be restored.
Deleting your account removes it.
Children’s privacy
Puzzle Nook is made for a general audience and is not directed at children under
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If
you believe a child has provided us with personal information through the
optional sign-in, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard protections, including encrypted connections and
row-level access rules that limit each cloud record to the account that owns it.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot
guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or
delete your personal information, or to object to how it is used. You can delete
your data yourself at any time using the in-app Delete Account option, or contact
us and we will help.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be shown by
updating the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use the app after a change
takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
